Import bank transactions from CSV or Excel

Nearly every bank lets you download your statement as CSV or Excel from its website. That is all you need: no account linking and no credentials handed to anyone.

Downloading your statement

The exact place varies by bank, but the option is usually in the account transaction view, behind a download or export button next to the date filter. Look for CSV or Excel; if it only offers PDF, that will not import.

It is worth picking a wide date range the first time — a year, if it lets you — and then downloading only what is new.

Mapping the columns

Sumant tries to recognise the columns on its own. It detects the common variants in Spanish and English: Date, Value date, Transaction date, Concept, Description, Amount, Debit, Credit, Balance, Currency.

It also handles both amount models banks use: a single column with positives and negatives, or two separate debit and credit columns. If your file has an odd header or title rows on top, it skips them.

When something is not recognised, you pick it from a dropdown. With Sumant PRO you can save that setup as a template and reuse it next month.

Review before anything is saved

Nothing is saved until you confirm. The review screen separates what is new, what you already have and what could not be read:

  • New: transactions that do not exist yet. They come ticked.
  • Exact duplicates: they match on account, date, amount, currency and description. They come unticked.
  • Possible duplicates: same day and amount, different wording. Shown separately for you to judge.
  • Errors: rows with an unreadable date or amount. They are not imported, and they do not stop the rest.

What Sumant does not do

It does not connect to your bank, read your email, use aggregators or open banking, and it does not accept PDFs or images of statements. It also does not keep the file you upload: it is processed on your device and only the transactions you confirm are stored.

Frequently asked questions

Which files can I import?

Sumant accepts CSV, Excel (.xlsx) and Norma 43. You can tell it which column holds the date, the description and the amount when the format is not recognised automatically, and save that setup as a template.

How does Sumant avoid duplicates?

Before importing, it compares account, date, amount, currency and description to find matches. Exact duplicates are skipped by default and possible duplicates are shown for review.

How many transactions can I import?

The free plan includes one import of up to 250 transactions, so you can see how it works with your own statement. Sumant PRO Founder, a single €19.99 payment, removes the limit.

Upload your first statement

It is processed on your device and never stored. You review everything first.
