How Sumant works

Three paths, one result: knowing where your money goes. You can combine them — import your history, log day to day and scan a receipt or a screenshot when you have it in front of you.

Updated on

Path A: import from your bank

The fast way to recover weeks, months or years at once. The file is processed on your device: Sumant does not keep the original statement, only the transactions you confirm.

  1. Download the file from your bank's website or app, as CSV or Excel.
  2. Upload it to Sumant and pick which account it belongs to.
  3. Map the columns: date, description and amount. If the format is recognised, they come pre-filled.
  4. Review new transactions, duplicates and rows with errors.
  5. Confirm only what you want to import.
  6. Check the summary: spending by category, budgets and how it evolves.

Path B: log by hand

Today's expense should not wait for the monthly statement. Four taps.

  1. Tap add.
  2. Enter the amount.
  3. Pick a category and an account.
  4. Save.
  5. Check the monthly summary whenever you want.

Path C: scan or type

For a receipt, a bank screenshot or a sentence. Sumant reads what you give it and proposes the transactions; you review them before they are saved. Reading an image needs a connection: the app sends it, oriented and re-encoded, to the reading service together with today's date, and never sends your history or your categories. Sumant keeps neither the image nor the reading; what the provider does with it is described in the Privacy Policy.

  1. Tap add, then «Scan».
  2. Pick a screenshot or take a photo. If you would rather type, switch to «Type or paste» and write a sentence such as «23.50 grocery yesterday».
  3. Sumant proposes the amount, date, description and direction of each transaction; the category is proposed on your device.
  4. Review each card: edit any detail, leave the category undecided or untick what you do not want.
  5. Add the transactions. Only then are they saved.

Which files it accepts

Works with CSV and Excel (.xlsx) files through a flexible column mapping, and with Norma 43 files, which are recognised by their content. If the Excel has several sheets, you choose which one to import.

Sumant recognises the most common column names in Spanish and English — Date, Value date, Description, Concept, Amount, Debit, Credit, Balance, Currency — and handles both a single signed amount column and separate debit and credit columns. When it cannot tell, you decide.

What happens with duplicates

Before importing, Sumant compares account, date, amount, currency and description. Exact duplicates are skipped by default. Possible duplicates — same day and same amount, but the concept worded differently — are shown separately for you to judge, because two identical coffees on the same day is also a normal thing to have bought.

Frequently asked questions

Does Sumant connect to my bank?

No. You download the statement from your bank's website or app and choose the file you want to import. Sumant never needs your credentials or permanent access to your account.

Is my bank file stored?

The file is processed on your device and Sumant does not keep the original statement. Only the transactions you review and confirm are saved.

Can I still log expenses manually?

Yes. Importing is for bringing in your history or updating many transactions at once. Day-to-day expenses can still be added manually in seconds.

How many photos or screenshots can I scan?

The Free plan includes 5 scans a month, counted when you confirm and save the transactions from an image, even if it holds several. PRO has no monthly cap. On both plans there is a maximum of 20 AI readings a day, across text and images, subject to service availability; logging by hand never uses up readings.

Try it with your own statement

The free plan includes one import of up to 250 transactions. No card and no banking credentials.
